JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO-RANDOLPH, Texas -- The Air Force Wounded Warrior Program (AFW2), in collaboration with PsychArmor Institute, recently launched an online training resource to benefit the more than 6,300 wounded warriors their families and or caregivers currently being supported by the program.
PsychArmor Institute is a national nonprofit that provides free, online education and support services to Americans who work with, live with or care for military service members, veterans and their families.
The targeted training for AFW2 will center on four groups: Staff, Caregivers, Recovering Airman Mentorship Program (RAMP), and Volunteers. Program managers will categorize and bin prospective trainees accordingly across the four areas to help streamline the training process.
“Members will need to register for a free account via the Training page of the AFW2 website to access the online material,” said Walt Myhre, AFW2 program manager. “Our program leads will then be able to grant access to the right training and be able to answer more in-depth questions throughout that learning process.”
Myhre added that while the trainings offered are not mandatory, they are invaluable tools for key demographics, and can lead to Certificate of Achievement following completion of five caregiver-focused courses provided by the institute.
According to their website, PsychArmor is the only national institute of its kind, dedicated to bridging the military-civilian divide through free resources. Additionally, PsychArmor provides a support center staffed with mental health experts that are ready to support beneficiaries.
The institute recruits nationally-recognized subject matter experts to create and deliver online courses pertaining to relevant military and veteran community issues. Their self-paced courses are delivered across nine areas geared toward military culture, healthcare providers, employers, K-12 educators, higher education, volunteers, caregivers and families, transitioning service members, and communities serving veterans.
“As we engage our community of service members and those who support them, a solid foundation of knowledge is key to optimizing services and providing an individualized, personal experience,” said Col. Michael Flatten, AFW2 director. “We believe the content provided by PsychArmor Institute helps us achieve these objectives with a measure of true excellence. We are excited to bring this training to you, and hope you find them to be valuable tools in supporting our vision and commitment to care beyond duty.”
