Airmen participate in 2014 Army Warrior Trials Published June 27, 2014 ALEXANDRIA, Va. -- Thirty-nine Airmen were among the 100-plus wounded, ill and injured American service members and veterans who participated in the Warrior Transition Command-hosted Army Warrior Trials, June 15 to 20, at the U.S. Military Academy in West Point, New York. The Army Warrior Trials included athletes from the Army, Marines and Air Force who faced off in archery, basketball, cycling, track and field, swimming, shooting, sitting volleyball and wheelchair basketball. Participants in the trials included athletes with spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injuries, visual impairment, serious illnesses and amputations. According to Thomas Webb, deputy to the commander of the Warrior Transition Command, the trials represent something much bigger than a competition. "Adaptive reconditioning and sports play a significant role in the Army's holistic approach to recovery and transition for these Soldiers," he said. "Warrior trials allow these soldiers and veterans to set goals and to meet them. We believe events of this type provide a sense of purpose, community, and improve their outlook and quality of life." Following the Army trials, 40 athletes were selected to represent Team Army at the 2014 Warrior Games taking place Sept. 28 to Oct 4 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Jointing them at the Warrior Games will be other armed forces teams, including 40 athletes who were selected in April to represent the Air Force.
