Overcoming the fire: One defender’s story of survival and healing
Staff Sgt. Bryan Nelson, 802nd Security Forces Squadron training NCO and Air Force wounded warrior, joined the Air Force in May 2009 and has deployed to Iraq, Jordan and Afghanistan twice. Nelson suffered extensive injuries after coming in contact with a suicide bomber in Afghanistan in December 2015, and has had four operations to aid in his physical recovery and is scheduled for at least two more.
