Airman recounts painful aftermath of life after TBI

Retired Air Force Master Sgt. Adam Boccher was injured during a deployment overseas in 2006 while mounting a weapon on a Humvee for patrol. He heard a rocket launch and knew it was heading straight for him. There were just seconds to make it to safety by getting low to the ground or be riddled with shrapnel. He dove off the top of the Humvee, sustaining an injury that changed the course of his life and that of his family.

The old saying goes, "A picture is worth a thousand words." Since 2004, Tech. Sgt. Tech Sgt. Roann Leatz, an MC-130j loadmaster with the 193rd Pennsylvania Air National Guard, is competing at the 2019 Air Force Trials at Nellis AFB, Nev. Her first event with the Air Force Wounded Warrior Program (AFW2) was at Offutt AFB, Neb. last year, with this being her first time competing. She is currently enrolled in the AFW2 High Performance Program, an adaptive sports program geared at increasing wounded warriors' recovery through sports. Air Force Trials is a Paralympic-style competitive event featuring eleven adaptive sports. It has a two-fold purpose, one is to select the 40-person primary and 10-person alternate members for Team Air Force.
